Debra's Story
Every weekend I wanted to do something different, and did.....
Started working downtown Detroit in 1967 after acquiring a visa. Took the bus
through the tunnel, and walked right down Woodward Avenue. Sometimes I stopped to get my shoes shined.
Now...well....not a party girl, although I've been throwing parties for others over the past 35 years in my professional life....
I travel to foreign lands alone, and never to resorts....because I crave adventure.
Been single since 1988 widowed suddenly...
Joined a 'boot camp' tough to get to in the summer, but come September I'll be a regular again....Like to do better than the 30 year olds.....and I do !
I still wear short skirts, high heels, and love ethnic jewelry....some of it I buy in my travels, and return to design and put together jewelry to match.
I share my home with no one, which I find easy.
I hate trophies and certificates of appreciation....I throw them away.....my trophies are my sons....now my twin grands'
My first job was at Green Giant, where I was paid 90 cents/hr. to whack out bad parts of the cob. What I remember most about it is the insane truck drivers..
Playing in the alley behind Crawford Avenue downtown Windsor....we put together two baseball teams easily, at the drop of a hat. Used pieces of wood for bases.
I'm an avid reader of non and fiction. Only collect reference books, and e-read fiction no...Expand for more
w. I've decided to winter away from now on...This year I'm in Oaxaca, Mexico. Chose it for the food. My little apartment has hot water at various stages, and I really enjoy walking every day...
I have twin granddaughters 6 years old . My eldest Son lives in Ottawa, youngest boy is in Vancouver.
Money hasn't been that important to me. I don't need stuff any more, and try to live simply.
Bought a house in the late spring of 2014, and worked at it over the past year.
Sold my house this spring, and have moved from the island. I'll give cooking seminars and do Airbnb.
I'm proud and happy that I was raised in Windsor, and worked in Detroit..taught me a whole lot of things. Looking back on Belle River, I realized later in life that I was an outsider, as they all grew up in that small town. St. Clair Beach was quite full of outsiders...My maid of honour for my first marriage has died. There is no one I still keep in contact from the village other than Susan Lavoie...she lives on the west coast now. Funny how you think you can sort out what happened in your life....so many years later...a wiser perspective perhaps. Still love to dance, and enjoyed meeting
the 'fratty' types in Riverside....and could they party !!!!
Riverside H.S. was just but one year....but I had been attending the arena dances previously.
I'm happy to be healthy and positive. What more could I want ?
