Debra's Story
My daughter, McKayla is my hero. When she was four, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She is now 9 and has been in remission for 3 and a half years. When she was diagnosed I often thought how can I make it through this only to look over at her and see her sheer will, determination and upbeat spirit. hat I work all the time and wasn't taking time to enjoy life. As Maya Angelou says, "I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life."
I also realized that when faced with difficult times, including illness, your outlook and spirit has a lot to do with how you fare. I look at McKayla and think, "If she could go through that and come through on top, what I am facing will be a breeze. :)
