Dee-dee's Story
If you didn't know, I suffered an acute brain injury 6 months after I graduated. I was heading down the "wrong track"- if you know what I mean- and my accident really knocked some sense into me. It got me off the coast where I couldn't feel sorry for myself, and instead it helped me to realize that my accident could have been a lot worse, since I was young and I had the rest of my life in front of me. I went to the "Acquired Brain Injury Program" at the SRJC, and spent the next 7 years overcoming my handicaps. It is where I met my man,(who is the cheerleader of my life) and the whole experience helped put me on my career path. It took me a total of 14 years till I finally met my goal. I had to take a lot of hard classes twice because of my memory problem. I had a lot of help from tutors at the school, I tell you,...Expand for more
I don't think I could do it again! It sure kept me busy! I'm now a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. I work in at Creekside Convolescent Hospital in Santa Rosa (and have for seven years) with people who have suffered some kind of disability. The people I like to work with the most are the one's who are returning home, for I can truly relate to what they are going through. I now live in Forestville. It is enough out of town, I still get the solitude of the country life I'm used to. Some time back I went to a reunion at the vets hall in PA, I saw a lot of people, what a trip that was. Especially seeing Mr Evans (my music teacher). Life is just going too fast, figure I better toucn bases with my past. Would love to catch up with any old friends I had from my days on the coast, aren't computers awesome?
