Deena's Story
Life
Hello! My biggest fear is that you will not remember me. My next biggest fear is that you will remember me. I was quite wild and carried a tough image. My best friends in high school were Laura Plough and Becky Santos. We are still friends today. I decided to grow up at age 25 and started college. I went to Brookhaven, SMU, and TWU. I have a Masters degree and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Dallas. I specialize in working with adults who were sexually abused as children. I live in Dallas with my partner of 27 years. We have 2 dogs, a nice home and life is good!
School
In elementary school my first love was Cayce Hunter. I had a secret crush, however, on Britt Johnson. In junior high I had a crush on Ted Turner. In high school I had a crush on Jimmy Mayfield and Don Scoggins. The nicest, most respectful guy I dated was Fawaz Ismail.
College
Brookhaven College: I fell in love with education here. I also spent a lot of time here because I had no real direction career-wise. My favorite moments here were listening to & meeti...Expand for more
ng Maya Angelou and Stokely Carmichael. My favorite class was Psychology 101.
SMU: Wow!!!!! I had the most brilliant, interesting, fascinating professors here that taught and inspired me so much. My favorite professors were Dr. Hawkins (Sociology), Dr. Halperin (Sociology), and a Theology Professor that I can't think of his name right now. SMU has a beautiful campus.
TWU: My focus here was on my profession as a licensed professional counselor. Amazing experience in learning about the helping profession and a real, hard look at myself, my past, my present, etc. My favorite professors were Dr. Evenson, and Dr. Reynolds, although they were all great.
Workplace
For years and years I was an administrative, word processing-type worker and I hated it more than you can imagine hating anything. These jobs inspired me to get an education because I knew I would be stuck doing this until I retired if I didn't. I always loved the people I worked with which made it bearable. Today I have a private practice in Dallas doing individual and group therapy.
