Life
After 15 years of trying out careers, I went to work for the state of Texas in 1975, I had been married, and had two great kids but we were divorced right after I settled down to one job. Soon after, I met the lady I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, gathered up a few more children, and started working on what I always wanted to do with my life anyway, be a writer. Now, having retired from state employment, I'm supported by a wife with a good job and the sales on two nonfiction books of Old West history, a book of poems, and the occasional article or speaking fee. I have high hopes for the sale of a novel soon, as well. It just keeps getting more fun. I still live in the Fort Worth area and would enjoy getting together with old acquaintances for coffee and nostagia. I'll even buy the coffee.

I got my first job at age 13 washing dishes at Buster's Charcoal Broiler on the corner of Grapevine Hwy and Glenview Dr. Of all the many jobs I had in High School, maybe the most fun was my stint as sort of de facto asst mgr at the Haltom Theater. During the next 15 yrs I put in time as preacher, truck driver, glazier, social worker, scale mechanic, teacher, gas pump jockey, and a few others. In 1975 I went to the work for the Texas Employment Commission and spent the next 23 yrs there. I had been writing for some time at that point and had a contract for a book so I retired early to write full time. I'm currently working on my 3rd book contract, a novel (as yet unsold), and a book of poetry. The book, Shootout in Texas: The Myth and History of the Old West Gunfight should be out in the spring of 2003
