Delexia's Story
Life
Well since high school, I have a son named Tyler, which may surprise plenty of people. Believe me, I was shocked myself...I attended SIUC for two years, and came back to Chicago to go to school. I think being in the country wasn't for me. Everything there is to do is on one main strip, and all the stores are on another main strip. Talk about boring. There was one bus system, and wild animals were always in my apartment complex. But I've been dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis for the last 3 years, and that's been a struggle. But life brings lots of twists and turns, and you just have to be ready to deal with them. I am now employed at the Chicago Tribune. I work in the Advertising Department in sales. I've been here since 2004.
School
I guess being at Whitney Young was a dull experience for me. Although I aced standardized tests, I hated homework and going to classes that I didn't want to take. I hung out a lot outside of school, and that may have been the reason that my grades weren't the best. Fortunately, my ACTs got me into a few school...Expand for more
s, so I was saved at the last minute. My favorite teacher was actually Mr. Scotese. He was a pretty funny guy and was very smart and laidback. I also enjoyed having Mr. Greene for Math and Mr. Ray-Ray Lawrence for Band, because band had to be my favorite class next to Math.
College
Well I did the SIUC thing for 2 years as a Computer Science major, then came back to Chicago and went to DeVry Univ Chicago as a Computer Information Systems major.
Workplace
I currently work in the Real Estate Advertising Department, designing RE ads. It's a fun place to work, they are always having different events, buying us lunches, and giving us gifts. I enjoy working there a lot. There also seems to be a lot of room for growth in the company, as many of the older employees have been there 15-30 years. Everyone from the upper level execs to the parking staff are friendly and willing to help if they can, and I enjoy that a lot. The Chicago Tribune has great benefits, 401(k) options, and a very competitive salary structure. Im glad I found a great place to work.
