Denis's Story
Life
Spent 2003 in Australia with my new wife, the lovely and brilliant Irena Neprasova. Now we're moving to New Hampshire, as part of the Free State project:

Graduated from UW-Madison in 1993 with a double major in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. Worked from 1993-1997 as a Software Engineer at Cummins Engine Co., Columbus, IN. 1997-present Software Development Manager at Oracle Corporation:
Vegetarian, first child Maxwell Mephisto born July 3 2004, Libertarian, INTJ (Meyers-Briggs), UNIX biggot, Perl lover, Honda Insight Hybrid-electric-car driver, Wildlife Volunteer (Save The Animals), juggler, reader (book-aholic), theater-goer, red wine drinker, pot smoker, anti-organized-religion Zen buddhist.
School
High school was definitely not my place to shine. Fortunately, Beloit had sufficient un-developed land to allow for protracted isolation. Also, I have Beloit Memorial to thank for a decent street-smarts education, worth as much as any formal part of the cirriculum. Senior year was the best -- I even had a few friends! ...Expand for more
Will Carpenter, RIP. From time to time, I still raise a glass in your memory.
College
Had an amazing time. What a whacked-out gang and odd twist of fate that put that group of people on the first floor of Princeton House. Still stay in touch with Ryan Gordon (not enough, though! Wish you guys lived closer!) and once in a blue moon with Andy Kammer (email me, will ya?). Whatever happened to Mike?
All in all, I somehow finished all 5 years with my sanity sort of intact.
Workplace
My entire career so far has been in the pursuit of the development of the ultimate software configuration management system. It's much, much slower going than I'd like, due to the need to support existing systems. Fortunately, more and more of the pieces are falling into place. I feel it is a great accomplishment that Oracle Corporation does its core development using my designs. I believe that having this system fully functional and available on the market will be a significant (albeit abstract) boon to humanity at large. Plus, it should make lots of money in the process. :-)
