Denise's Story
College
I was working for MicroAge in Tempe and married when I first went to College. I drove a Red '77 914 Porsche to school everyday and was a bit older than most of the students (at 23). I ended up with a 4.0 and an Associates Degree and went right back to work at Computer Superstores in Phoenix.
Workplace
When I was attending Manzano HS in ABQ, NM, I worked for Mac's Steak in the Rough, flipping burgers, chopping salads and tending the walk-up window. It was my first REAL job! My boyfriend, Steve Nunley, used to drive me to work and home after school. After graduation, I worked as the Administrative assistant at a Used Car/In-Ground Pool company on Wyoming in ABQ. I remember I made about $300 a month. I left ABQ in late '76 to move to Florida for about a year. There I worked at a temporary agency with various jobs all over the Tampa Bay area. I came back to ABQ to get married in '77 and we moved to Phoenix. There I worked again for a temporary agency until I landed a job at The Byte Sh...Expand for more
ops in Tempe. They later became MicroAge. When MicroAge first filed Chapter 11, I left to go to Maricopa Technical Community College. After 2 years, I worked at Computer Superstores - first as the accountant, then in sales. From there I worked at both Businessland of Phoenix and Dataplace. I moved to Salt Lake City in '83 and worked in sales at CompuShop. After 9 months of cold weather, I followed my best friend (Marty Ward) to San Diego and worked for ComputerLand for almost 4 years as the Assistant Store Manager. An opportunity came up with one of my clients, so I left to work as the Network Administrator at Deloitte Haskins and Sells. After almost 4 years there, they merged and became Deloitte and Touche. I left to work at KPMG in 1990 where I am still the Sr. Technology Manager today, though now I'm in Phoenix since 2007.
As of February 2024 and 34 years, I am now retired and plan to travel the world. 6 trips already reserved before end of 2024 including Rome, Athens, Turkey and Ireland!
