Denise's Story
How do you hope that old friends remember you? That I was me, plain and simple.
I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an excellent idea. As it turns out, they were correct, however I diversified my ¿life dream¿ after being enrolled in college and realizing that there was a myriad of other career options available to me other than becoming a doctor, lawyer or engineer. I eventually opted to get a degree in Biology/Criminal Justice and later added getting certified to teach and an MBA in business marketing, because my mother strongly encouraged me to have a plan A, B,C and D.
How do you blow off steam?
I enjoy spa days, people watching, reading, spending time with friends and ultimately traveling.
Describe your favorite way to relax.
My favorite way to relax is to go to the Pocono Mountains and checking in to a cabin or room and enjoy the serenity of peace and quiet.
What's the wildest thing you ever did in school?
I was never really a ¿wild¿ type so I have no answer for this question.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have security and peace of mind to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
Do you have a hero? My hero was my mother, Ruth M. Lewis. My mother not only taught me about God and his wondrous works but she also taught me about how to be resilient in the face of adversity, she daily role modeled positive attitude/behavior. She always said, ¿That the issue is not how one falls down in life but how one gets up and keeps it moving.¿
Talk about where your inspiration comes from. My inspiration came from my family, namely my Great Grandparents, Grand Parents and Parents. They were all go-getters and succeeded in spite of opposition or naysayers.

Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What's been your biggest surprise?
My biggest surprises were the loss of my father in 1989, My grandfather in 1999, my first husband in 2004 and my mother in 2008. Each time I was blindsided.
Which teachers would you love to see again? Mr. Featherstone/Mrs. Lay
Why? They both made learning fun while teaching non-fun courses.
Ever live in a dorm?
I lived in a dorm during my college years, what I learned most was that in selecting roommates, one should select an individual that they do not know in order to grow. My dorm experience positive overall.
