Denise's Story
Workplace
After 14 years at GM, the plant was closed. So, I went to Electronics School to learn a trade. Two years later, I was hired by Ford Motor Company (salary) as Instrumentation Technician. I built, maintained and repaired all the electronic equipment used to test parts on cars for Research and Developement. After 6 1/2 years of that, I took the hourly apprenticeship test for Skilled Trades (way more...Expand for more
money). I passed and then spent 3 1/2 years as a HVAC engineer apprentice. I have since graduated as a Stationary Steam Engineer. Now my job is to take care of all the heating, ventilation and air conditioning, HVAC, for testing or creature comfort of whatever building they assign me to at the Research & Engineering Center/Dearborn Proving Ground. I plan on retiring next contract with 30 years of service.
