Dennis's Story
Life
I finally discovered that the rest of the world was not exactly like Bristol. After 1973, I went to Vanderbilt and ended up getting a couple of masters degrees in religious studies from Harvard. I was perfectly prepared to be a banker and eventually a fundraiser. I have worked in development at Vanderbilt, UNC-Chapel Hill, William and Mary, and now Washington and Lee, where I am the Vice President for University Advancement. I oversee development, alumni affairs, special programs, communications and public affairs, and special events. I have Susan the wife, Walker, Grier, and Miss Sydney the children, Jake the dachshund, and Michelle the cat. I have enjoyed returning to Bristol to visit my parents, but with the death of my 92 year-old father in June, 2007, both parents are now deceased and buried in Bristol. My biggest accomplishment so far is winning a talent prize at Harvard for being able to put my entire fist in my mouth. I enjoy exploring the culture of the South, watch...Expand for more
ing baseball and hockey and continuing to learn about the history of the games, and travelling to new parts of the world. A few of the places where I have ventured with individual trips are the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany regions of Italy, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, Chile, France(where I lived one summer), England, Turkey, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Netherlands, Japan, Poland, Denmark, and Belgium. My first trip to Asia was my trip to Japan in 2007. I went with 23 others to travel throughout Japan to watch Japanese professional baseball. I have returned to Japan to watch other games and visit other ballparks. Friends I have been around during all parts of my life are important to me. I wish I kept in better contact because those links that have shaped the present could enrich the present and the future if given the chance. I do not keep in contact as I wish I did. I think a lot about the good friends and classmates I had growing up in Bristol.
