Dennis's Story
After graduating high school, I spent the next several years furthering my education. I graduated from University of Connecticut 1991, and Western New England College
School of Law in 1995. Subsequently, I was admitted to the Connecticut and District of Columbia Bar. I currently practice law in West Hartford, Connecticut.
While in law school, my sister Patty (RHS '89), introduced me to my future wife Karen (Northwest Catholic '86; Fordham '90; St. Joseph's College '94 MA). We were married in 1996. Initially, Karen and I spent a lot of our free time traveling through Canada, parts of Europe, and the Pacific Northwest.
In 2002, we decided to adopt a child. After attending a conference in New York City we ended up signing on with an agency in Texas. The application ...Expand for more
process took over a year to complete. Once our paperwork was finalized, the adoption agency told us it would be at least a year to 18 months before a placement would be available.
Miraculously, six weeks later we received a call that a placement was immediately available. The biggest surprise was that not just one baby was available for adoption, but instead twin four-week-old girls.
Our initial reaction was shock/panic. Because we expected we had a year to prepare, at the point the telephone call came we did not have a single bottle, stitch of baby clothing, or any cribs. Somehow we mobilized and five days later were down in Texas retrieving our twin girls.
That was almost 5 years ago. Since then the parent thing has been challenging, awe-inspiring, and enjoyable.
