Dennis's Story

It hadly seems like it has been 40 years since we graduated high school. Time does fly! After graduation I received a BS and MS in Computer Science from Michigan State. During graduate school I was on staff at the Plant Research Laboratory on campus. While there I met this young Biology graduate student. One thing led to another and we have now been married 34 years. After Michigan State we moved to Massachutts where we lived and worked for 14 years. I then changed my career path, received a MA in Education from Tufts University, moved back to Battle Creek and taught both at the high school and community college level. While back in Michigan, our two kids grew up, moved out of state, Cynthia got her PhD.and is a partner at a small consulting company serving foundations and a few other organizations. Our youngest, Courtney is completing a masters degree in education and will be teaching high school mathematics this fall. Our oldest, Nick, moved to Houston and became an auto mechanic after studying at a technical school. He just recently moved back to Michigan ...Expand for more
and is working at a car dealership south of Kalamazoo. It is nice having him nearby again. The love of computers was too strong and after a couple of years I got back into computers from the IT support end. For the past 17 years I have been managing IT support organizations serving the DoD. Two years ago I also began a PhD in Computer Science at Michigan State. It has been a challenge working full time, taking classes and trying to do research. Since May life has been rather crazy. My Father died, my positionI held for 17 years was eliminated and I am now a full time student. Since Dad died, I have been back in Durand living in the folk's house taking care of Mom. It seems really strange to be back in town after all these years. Strange but rather nice in some ways. In getting ready for the class reunion I dug through the memory boxes and found two of the yearbooks. '69 and '70. I had not looked at them in over 30 years. It was fun reading what people had written in my yearbooks. A lot of good memories and things I have not thought about in a very long time.
