Deon's Story

Life Living and Working in Mexico....enjoying Senoritas and Margaritas !!....Holla at cha Boy!! I see a lot of my old friends, and i know we have all had very intersting a busy lifes. We need a form to communicate a little more, and i know we are all busy, but it would be good to hear from some of the old true friends from time to time. I ran across two of my best "potnas" a few years ago ( Randy and Ronald Predium ). Nothing has changed as far as us being true friends, although we did have to go back our own corners of the world. We lost touch aagain. You only get a few true homies like that, and i know when ever we hook up again, it's on and cracking ( true homies to the end ).The there is Fred Smith, the one i refer to as " the minister of information", this man has more history about Lynwood folk then another other person that you or I know. Had it not been for Fred, a great deal of information that we get, would not be known about our fellow Knights. My time at " The Wood" was spent being a football player. That's all i ever wanted to do. I slept it, ate it, and dranked it. I rememeber great times and great games to this day. I grow through highlights in my mind all the time. Lynwood class of "80" was a force to be rekind with. We were the 1st to win the S.G.V.L. title outright. That can never be repeated, no matter what! I remember the times when we were some what hated by the other levels ( varsity, J.V. Soph. ) because we were good, and we knew it. we were the only ones ( freshmen ) to take 1st place that year. I remember when we scrimmaged the soph. team and put a hurting on those boys. They really didn't like us after that, hahahaha. J.V. didn't have to much to say. Varsity snawled at us from time to time. We were a cocky bunch. I still rememeber we ended our season at 5-2-1. S.G.V.L. champs our 1st time out the gate. I rememeber Doug France of the Los Angeles rams came to our banquet and presented us with our Championship trophies. When we became sophmores, all hell broke loose. You think we were cocky as freshmen, we were 10 times worse as sophmores. We lost some big guns ( Howard Hawkins went to warren Hi ) Norris Anderson, Sam Cardiel, Kelly Irby , and i believe Troy Horton went to varsity ). But we gained some big guns to. Jay Reid was able to convince his pops to let him play football that year, so we had a big strong back in the back field. I remember James Gustavis ran tight end for us. My father was murdered during our summer session before that season, and i dedicated ...Expand for more
my season to him. I kept his pictire in my helmet and my locker, and always looked up to the heavens before and after each game. The team went 8-1-0, that one lost came to El Rancho High, they cheated us so bad that day. They called back 4 touchdowns. Can you believe that FOUR Tochdowns!!!. We once got a penalty for "crawling" The man called "crawling" on us, hahahaha. when they called 1 of the 4 TD's back, i remember we asked, Who it was, he gave us the number for somebody that wasn't even in the game. We had a bench clearing brawl before halftime. I got kicked out of the game. I remember it was a big stink over that game, Coach Paul filed a complaint with the league, because the cheating was so obvious. I also got kicked out of the Gahr game as well, for laying to people out, with solid elbow shots to the head. During my junior year, i sat the bench. I wanted to play defense, but the coaches wanted me on that O-Line. I was having no parts of that. I'd figure i'd show them and just refuse any offensive drills. HA!, they showed my ass and sat me on the bench the entire year. I got limited play on offense and defense. When we became seniors, we knew this was it. This was for all the marbels. All of us were back together again, except Howard. We were bigger, faster, stronger, well trained, and quick as cats! Like i said, that year we went on to make school history. I believe we had more all leaguers than any other team in school history. We were the # 1 seeded team gong into the playoffs. # 1 team in the CIF southern section. We lost a close contest to the team that ended up winning the CIF title, however we were looking for something more on this team. For all our years of training and complying with what the coaches wanted, we were waiting to see if we could receive some scholarships for our efforts. To our dismay, there was nothing for any of us. Not one! Coaches told us that thought we would be better JC players, more opputunities for us that way. While they were getting job offers to more prominent and finacially secured schools, they left us filling out financial aid forms. We got had. After that, the school caught fire. We created history in many ways, and the old Lynwood main buildings , burned to the ground. It's like God said, OK, that's it...you all done it, and it can never be repeated...time for Lynwood to start a new era. Many knights after us went on to receive scholarships and prospered in college and some in pro football. Way to go fellas! Deon Fite aka " Fite Dogg" c/o "80"
