Derek's Story

Update 11/5/17-Sorry that I missed the combined Reunion last night, I hope that many were available to enjoy. Have started working on on the Netflix Season 2 of "Ozark". Update-9/15/2017...I am now down in Atlanta working for my 4th project in a row...currently doing the Marvel series, "The Gifted" which starts airing in October on Fox. Then in November, I head back over to "Ozark", the Netflix series for Season 2. Season 1 was very successful, so they wanted me back and Jason Bateman is a great person to work with. Hopefully I will get back into town for one of the Reunion gatherings. The friends that we made in High School are truly friends for life. Revised update...currently in Cincinnati doing a movie for Lifetime. Later this year, a couple of movies that I did will come out...1st- the remake of "The Magnificent Seven" with Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and a long list of others, and then 2nd-the biopic story of Tupac Shakur-"All Eyez on Me"......enjoying life on a daily basis and making the most...spreading the positive word and realizing that we still live in the best country. Update, yesterday July 18, I got another Emmy Nomination for my work on the History Channel ...Expand for more
miniseries "Hatfields and McCoys". In this industry it is always a great thing when the cast and crew are recognized for the collaborative work on a project, a total of 16 nominations. I work in the Movie/Television Industry as a Production Designer in California and have traveled throughout the world on several different projects. One of the most exciting things about my work is my travels and have been very lucky to have seen a large portion of the globe. I still have a residence in Irving as well as Palm Springs & Los Angeles. When not traveling I enjoy a round of golf or two or three or whenever possible. My just completed film that we shot in Louisiana was with Oliver Stone directing and is called "W". This is my 6th project to work with Oliver. This past television season I did the television series called "House" and I was nominated for an Emmy for my production design work for the 2005 season. I am currently prepping on a film that will be shooting in Portland Oregon, with Harrison Ford and Brendon Fraser as the stars in the new movie. I hope and trust that we will all be able to gather at the next Reunion. Time passes us by and we should all stay in touch if possible.
