Life
Boy, hasn't 58 years gone by in a flash!
To recap a few things since graduation, I attended BYU for one semester and then completed a 2-year mission to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Back at BYU, I had a great time ballroom dancing, throwing pottery, rebuilding engines and being the only guy in cooking class. I did find time to graduate in Chemistry and stay immersed in LDS Church activities.
I left Utah for Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas in 1981. It was a real eye opener to life outside of Happy Valley and a great experience. After considering everything from General Surgery to Gynecology, I chose Family Practice because it challenged me to keep learning to stay up to date and because I discovered that being involved in the lives of people of all ages made medicine fun.
I married Emily Swallow (her family owned Swallow's Drug in the Orem Mall) from Provo, Utah (PHS class of 1980) in 1985. She's the love of my life, my best friend and when I'm with her, I feel like I've come home.

y, led us to abandon our plans to set up practice in Reno, Nevada and we moved to Salt Lake City. Marissa (1990), Sean (1992), Alicia (1994), Amanda (1999) and Jared (2002) soon followed the first two children.
My practice of medicine has changed over the years. I am now double board certified in obesity medicine and family medicine and own and manage both a large family practice (highlandfp.com) and a weight loss clinic (advancedmedicalweightloss.com). In addition, I am a certified principal investigator and own and manage my own research clinic (highlandclinicalresearch.com). I am the medical director for a separate research clinic as well (jeanbrownresearch.com). Between the two research clinics, I have have participated in over 100 clinical research trials for pharmaceutical companies. If that is not enough, I also own and manage a medical spa (rejuvenateutah.com).
I have been at the same work location at 4460 S. Highland Drive for 25 years and love my practice and my patients. My 12-hour days in the office barely leave enough time to see all of my patients. Still, there is almost enough time at the end of each day for my sweetheart wife, my wonderful children, my 22-year-old and steadily-falling-apart home, my LDS church job and various hobbies and interests.
