DeRonda (Rondy)'s Story
Life
I obviously have time on my hands today, or I would not be doing this! Since I missed the last reunion, decided to fill this out-- also since it's been fun reading other people's news. I don't like that they offer only canned answers, however, because many of them just marginally fit my circumstances.
Never thought I would ever be in the work world, because my goal in life throughout high school and college was to be married, have kids and live happily ever after and to work at home. By that I mean keeping a clean and smoothly running household with time then to pursue other varied interests!
My profession would come as a surprise to most people who knew me in high school. I ended up in Nursing and am now a Psych-Mental Health Nurse, working days at Duke University in Student Health and with a part-time private practice on the side. Years ago I was the Admissions Director in a psychiatric hospital and was in private practice exclusively for 6 years after getting a Masters in Theological Studies. Not surprisingly, I still go to church and am somewhat active there. I am still Roman Catholic.
My real strengths were in writing and I loved history but got turned off by a college history teacher who was boring and gave impossible reading assignments! After having Mr. Stuckey at Euclid High for history--who was great-- I abandoned my plan to major in that subject. Interestingly enough I was able to fulfill both interests by writing an article which was published in American Heritage Magazine in l994--it was about my father's death on D-Day in WWII. I'm still hearing from people about that articl...Expand for more

In my adult lifetime I've painted watercolors, played the piano and banjo, done Scottish, Scandinavian and Irish dancing as well as learning some dances from Eastern Europe. I've camped and canoed and done an Outward Bound trip. Have traveled to Finland, England, Ireland, Wales and France-- two trips each to England, Ireland and France, but this is not much traveling compared to others I know. Traveling is not high on my agenda, but dancing and music is. Now I only do Ballroom and love it. My pocketbook does not allow competition, but I enjoy doing showcases.
I have two wonderful daughters, Sara and Katy, of whom I am extremely proud. Sara is a dilletante like me, speaks Russian and has her own Rock Band; Katy is married with two sweet children, Quinn (a girl) and Luke! Those children have lighted up my life in such a wonderful way.
I have remained good friends with Carol Prostor Barta, Joyce Burns Zeiss, and Marilyn Vincent Anderson from EHS. Last month I was able to renew a friendship with Nancy Gerl/Anne Greenfield, and that was such fun. There are two more of us in North Carolina(that I know of)-- George Nowacek and Bob Gubanc, and I've seen and spent some time with both. Fun!
I live in the country on five acres of land with two dogs and two cats, all rescued. Have been working in the Animal Rights movement for many years, writing and giving talks on Christianity and Vegetarianism..
All for now. I hope the rest of you will write bios as well. I would love to hear what my EHS friends are doing now! Let's all go to the next reunion- I have such fond memories of high school days.
