Derrick's Story
If you want to get in touch with me find me on face book under my name or my space under Chabochi. The groups I am like Da Nang and Camp Hansen and Parris Island are for my dad. I am trying to find people who may have known my father in Vietnam. I live in Asheville,NC. I just recently got back from a killer trip to the Copper Canyons of Chihuahua, Mexico. Where I spent 3 months with the Tarahumara Indians living, working, and participating in there ceramonies. I am one of only 2 white men in history to have danced with the Tarahumara Indians of Guadalupe Coronado as a Diablo in there Semana Santa celebration. Semana Santa is a week long however the 4 Sundays before the week of Semana Santa there is allot of preparation and ceremony. It includes a 24 hour dance and drinking marathon. Where I stayed up for 24 hours and got painted with black and white paint and danced around the town, drank, and carried coffins and statues. It was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life. my group were pretty much "Binge Drinking". One guy got his arm broken right in 2 but kept on trucking. He carried a 100lb coffin with a broken arm. That is how dedicated he and the others were. Allot of wrestling went on all night long. Some really good matches. I am not talking WWF. Its SLAM feast on dirt.
The land that the Tarahumara live on is being taken away from them. Logging, gold and silver mining have decimated the land there and forced people who have lived in the area for thousands of years out of there homeland.
Next trip will be Peru and then back to Mexico for my next Semana Santa. I plan on working and traveling for the rest of my life.
People you need to see what is happening in your own country freedom is being supressed. Bills like H.R. 1955 The Radical Home Grown Terrorist Act and the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 are and could kill this country as we know it. This is what happend in Germany in the late 30's. Same stuff! NEED TO WAKE UP AND STRIKE!
