Derrick's Story
Life
After Graduating Mathieu-Martin, I went to l'Universite de Moncton for a couple years, wasting time, worked at Cavendish National Park for a while, then joined the Canadian Forces...that was in June 84. In fact, as I type this, it's been 20 years, almost to the day. After Bootcamp, I went to school in Kingston, specializing in Communications. After earning the Top Graduate Award, I was transfered to BFC Valcartier, PQ for a short 4 month, 5 days, 16 hours, 23 minutes and 57 second posting. While I was in Valcartier, I completed my Para course and was then transfered to CFB Petawawa with the 1st Canadian Airborne Regiment, with whom I served 3 years before being transfered to Lahr, Germany. I was in Germany for 3 years, until 91, when I came back to Kingston working for the 1 Cdn Div Commander. I stayed in Kingston for 5 years, then moved to Trenton Ontario, working Air/Ground/Air communications from 96 until the present. During all this time, I met my wife while I was in Kingston the first time, we had our first child (boy) in 88 while stationed in Germany, both our daughters were born in Kingston, in 91 and 94...then we had another son in 99 in Trenton. Over the years, I've had many adventures, deploying to ...Expand for more
Cyprus (86-87), to Former Jugoslavia (92-93) and to The Sinai, Egypt (97)...and that's where I am right now, as I type...in July 2004. Over the years, I've continued to play sports, mostly Hockey and soccer, some badminton and golf, playing in many Provincial and National Championships, and was even invited out to try for Canada's Military soccer team to compete against the US and other countries. Unfortunately, I was cut from the team, but it was a lot of fun trying. Also, while serving in Germany, I played Hockey and soccer for a couple German and French teams, that was lots of fun. Another primary hobby over the years, I've been a radio broadcaster for several different radio stations, that one of my main responsibilities here in Egypt. Presently, I'm contemplating what I'm going to do when I get home from the Middle East, with 20 years of Military Service completed, it may be time to move on to something new, though I have no idea what I want to do. My kids are all amazing, needless to say, they all play Hockey and practice martial arts, my oldest daughter (13) is also an accomplished singer, already labeled a future Canadian Idol... remember the name "Tyera". Alright, that's it for now. Talk to y'all later...D'
