Derry's Story

After high school, I attended Western Nebraska Jr. College for one year. I then joined the United States Marine Corps. I was stationed in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina for a couple months and then Coronado, California for the rest of my tour of duty. I was a 3535, 0131 and 0151 for those of you that know the Marine Corps MOS system. After getting out of the Marines I moved to Ventura, California and attended Cal State Northridge where I received a BA in Child Development. Then I moved back Nebraska for a short period of time. I worked for the hospital there in Scottsbluff. The weather was not for me and I moved back to San Diego. I then worked for General Dynamics Space Systems as a Customer Relations Representative. Unfortunately, this company is no longer in business. This was a great job. I married and moved to Oakland, California with my husband (now ex) who was in the Navy...Expand for more
as an anesthesiologist. Together we had two children. Our oldest is a senior in high school and the youngest is in 8th grade. I went on to receive my Elementary Education degree and taught as a substitute in 5 different school districts over a 14 year span. We moved to Indiana, where he is from, when the youngest was a baby. He got of the Navy and has been practicing at a hospital here. His parents live about 40 miles south of here and that is why we moved back here. We divorced January, 2006. I now work as a Case Manager in an outpatient Behavioral Health Unit. My children are growing up and life is going on. I have enjoyed living in three different states with my ex-husband. They are California, Washington and Indiana. Currently in my spare time I like to travel! I look forward to seeing those of you who decide to come to our class reunion next year in Gering, NE.
