Diana's Story

Life WOW! Where to begin? I grew up in the little town of Hastings, FL going to the same school for most of my school years, along with the same group of friends that I began first grade with. I got married before I graduated, dropped out of school, took my little sister to raise, and had two boys, my mom passed away, went back to get my GED, and divorced my first husband within seven years of getting married. So here I was, 23 years old, single again, with three children. I went to SJRCC and got a certificate in bookkeeping and while doing this met my soon to be next husband. So began my next chapter of life.... We married in Groton, CT. where he was stationed in the Navy and I became a Navy wife. I loved the Navy life with the traveling and the patriotism it inspired. We moved around a lot, including living in Holy Loch, Scotland for a year which was a great adventure for a little girl from the potato fields of Hastings! My children grew up Navy brats and my little sister, who we had adopted by then, married a Navy man and my youngest son married a Navy woman. A few years back I decided I should try something new so I went back to school. I got an Associates Degree and am trying to decide if I want to get a Bachelors....probably in Human Services since that is where I have done most of my volunteer work through the years. Next we retired and traveled in my fifth wheel, workcamping for state parks in exchange for a parking spot and hook-ups. It is a fun way to live and I am surrounded by nature. My days consist of riding the trails to make sure there are no fallen branches, feeding turtles, toads, lizards, and snakes at the nature centers, and herding the occassional gopher off the road. Oh, and working with the children in the Junior Ranger program which is my speciality. I have worked with children in one way or another thr...Expand for more
oughout my life including being a foster parent, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, after school care programs, and children programs with Michaels Arts and Crafts store. I've made mistakes through the years but I guess the biggest one was making a big change in my life. I gave up on someone who loved me and now I am alone. Well, not really alone-alone but feel like I'm alone because the person I need most isn't in my life anymore. I enjoy my grown children. My oldest daughter is a special ed teacher and this year became cheer coach for the local high school. She is really doing too much but I think it is to fill her empty nest and she will find her way through it. My oldest son....well, when he was in high school his principal had me in to discuss his activities...seems he had stolen the math test and was selling the answers. The principal told me he would either end up the best salesman ever or be in prison by the time he was 30. Well luckily he is a wonderful salesman and makes a very good living at it. He has turn out so different than I ever expected....in a good way! He is married to a wonderful young woman and they appear very happy. My youngest son is married to a great young lady who loves him and his children. Of course I think they might be a little whacked out since between them they have 6 children! As you can tell, I am very proud of my children. I think my life is heading in interesting directions and I can't wait to see what is next! My granddaughter is pregnant and having a baby so I will be a great Grandma! That should be an interesting journey. UPDATE: My youngest son passed away Sept. 15 and it has been a really hard thing to deal with. I would never wish this pain or ache on my worst enemy. I work now as a after school coordinator and my greatest joy is my kids at Monster Club. They are helping me through this.
