Diana's Story

After high school I went to school for a while, then I met my husband who was in the military. Instead of Viet Nam he was fortunate enough to go to England. I went there too and lived there for 2 years. I have two children, obviously grown with their own children now. Later on I became single. I have worked in higher education most of my life now. Currently I am in Greeley at UNC. A nice campus and community, but hopefully not my retirement community. I would like to go somewhere exotic and intellectually stimulating. I live with my cats, (you know the crazy old lady with all those cats?) I never wanted to be one of them but which ones do I get rid of? I am waiting for nature to take its course, keep my heart and eyes closed to those adorable kittens, puppies, and any other animal that looks like it wants a home. Most of the people I know have benefited from my not being able to say no. I really haven't had any complaints about placement, not that that is my life's work, it just happens. I try to keep myself occupied with friends and family. I have two little grandchildren that live close, so we get to play a lot on the weekends. We have tea parties, go...Expand for more
to the park and fish, go hiking, go to soccer games, dance, paint, and all those things that grandmas get to do that their parents get upset about. We don't care though because that is just what we do. As far as the past is, there are just various places I have lived, but always came back to Colorado. I lived in Virginia for about 5 years in Virginia Beach on the oceanfront. Totally loved it. No much of a winter, the ocean is wonderful and seems to relax my soul. The summers are another story altogether. The humidity and heat took me a couple of years to get used to. I never did get used to the warm nights though. It never cools down like it does here, and there is always a short drive to the mountains here when the heat gets too unbearable. Although the sea still draws me to it. I might find my "exotic" place to retire to. Maybe some place close to the water, but not much heat in the summer. Does anyone know of that place? Let me know. Another place that I lived only very briefly after I found it to be totally bigotted was the Ozarks in Arkansas. O MY GOSH!! The country is beautiful but the people are something else. I couldn't get out quick enough.
