Diana's Story

Life Finally, I am a shortimer at my job; 12/31/05 is my last day after 21 years at the same job. Makes me realize that I have fulfilled one of my greatest desires: to live in a small town getting to know people & them me for more than 3 years! While I've been married several times, I have only one son born in '74 in Denver, Colorado; and one Grandaughter turning 13 in October. Now I live 2 blocks from Little Bay which has a barrier island between it and the Gulf of Mexico. For the past 36 hours we have been boarding up, tying down & stashing away in preparation to leaving home fleeing from hurricane Rita. The price of tropical living! I am currently attending year 2 of EFM, Education For Ministry. Beginning 2006 I will begin fulfilling my desire to spend more of my time getting closer to my Lord and Savior, sharing the "story" and helping others. I am not sure of the direction of my calling, only that I have been called. This year our best friend dropped dead of a heart attack in front of his wife at only 50 years of age, several close work companions died within weeks of retirement and too many have gone to their greater reward still in harnas. All this upheld my decision to retire while I have a chance to enjoy life after WORK. I feel my life is taking a wonderful turn for the best and I look forward to enjoying every minute from now...Expand for more
on. Workplace I began working at Girl Scout Camp on Okinawa and have had too many jobs since to even contemplate. For a student who struggled with math all the time I don't know how I managed to work in bookkeeping and accounting much of the time. For the past 21 years I have been a mass appraiser for the county appraisal district. Probably at graduation I would not have been able to define an appraiser let alone express a desire to be one! It has been really interesting work applying value for ad valorem tax purposes to all the property in the county. Because we are a small office we all know how to work most of the areas of appraisal and are not slotted into only one portion like real estate, business personal property, agricultural valuations etc. Now I will be able to contunue, without interuption of work schedules, the study I began 2 years ago in Education For Ministry. I am attending year 2 of 4 years of study. I love it and have high hopes of utilizing this knowledge to share "the story" while fulfilling my calling. Sounds like a pretty dull life when I set it down like this. However, after 23 years of being a military brat with no roots settled is what I wanted. And I must not be too "stick in the mud" as our son has supported his family in a good style as a tattoo artist in Port Aransas, Texas, for the past 10 years.
