Diana's Story

Life After living in Hawaii, Texas, California, Louisiana, and Kentucky, here I am back in Iowa. I have two daughters - Megan (27, and Elizabeth (25), three grandchildren (Grace-6, Brai-3, and Ryder-2). Beth is at the University of Iowa majoring in Chinese and Fine Arts, minoring in French. She spent 9 months in China last year as an intern for the summer, and went to college in the fall in Shanghai. She went to India on a research mission in January. We went to Paris two years ago and she was my tour director... She is engaged and planning a wedding next year. Megan lives in Marion and is busy raising her children and working full-time outside the home. She spent New Year's in Las Vegas and will spend the July 4th holidays in Phoenix. I enjoy traveling and spent 3 weeks in Italy and Sicily three years ago, a week in Paris two years ago, and 10 days in Scotland last year. You can't do Rome in a day, and certainly cannot do Italy in 3 weeks... therefore, I must go back. Italy has been calling me since my high school days of Latin, and the movie, "Rome Adventure". The gondola rides in Venice were great fun. Michelangelo's statue of "David" in Florence was spectacular... what can I say... my first impression was.. he's BIG!! Assisi is a classic, and Pompeii is a wonder. Sorrento, the Isle of Capri, and the Amalfi Coast have captured my heart. And Rome... I spent days wandering the streets of Rome... and kept wandering back to the Trevi fountain where I tossed coins (over my left shoulder!) to ensure my return. Paris is sensational! I love it. It's a great walking city with superb Metro system. My sister (Dee) lives in the Phoenix area, so I visit her from time to time when I get too cold in the Iowa winters. I write book reviews for Thomas Nelson, Inc., and publish them on several websites, including my blog. I actively enjoy Facebook and Twitter. I "tweet" on Twitter for First United Methodist Church of Marion. It is very community oriented and has four church services, so there is something for everyone. I enjoy playing bridge in online bridge tournaments, and sometimes am a "tech director" for one of the tournaments. My bridge name is "moonie" in case any of you want to play bridge with me on bridgebase.com. [And no, I am not a "moonie". That name was shortened from "moonlitshores", the name I used on a different bridge site... the new one would not allow as many letters for the screenname. I know, imagining me as a "moonie" with shaved head and beads is much more interesting... but not the case.] I have a cool bicycle that I should ride more often! I enjoy some crafts like beading, handmade cards, crocheting, and really should do scrapbooking but they take so long! I enjoy visiting my high school classmates, so please send me an email and ...Expand for more
let's get back in touch. You can find me on the internet on Facebook and on Twitter. You can "follow" me there and do consider signing up for those neat sites if you are not already a member. Peace and love, Diana School Early childhood memories are of wonderful moments with my neighbors, Bobby and Weasy Stafford. Bobby and I used to have great fun running off to the river to play and scaring my mother out of her wits. We spent lots of time at the park playing on the slides and hobby horse and lying on our backs watching cloud formations, sneaking off to our father's gas stations (my dad's was the Shell station, Bobby's was the DX station) and swiping pop and candy. True confessions. I talked to Bobby a couple of years ago... he lives in Naples, Italy now. He agreed that we had fun when we were kids but that our hometown didn't seem as exciting as Naples anymore... imagine that. I finally quit playing with the neighborhood boys when John Schuster tackled me and it HURT. [Note: John signed me guestbook a while back and said that he was sorry, but he did not remember me...... does that mean I did not leave a lasting impression or that he is getting senile?] Favorite teachers? Mrs. Turner (3rd grade), the Hansons (band and English). Favorite activities - playing trombone in the band and Swing Show, Minneapolis Aquatennial Parade, attending All State and Dorian music festivals and All State Band Camp at the University of Iowa. I remember playing at the fairgrounds, too! Enjoyed spending summers and water skiing at our cabin at Lake Delhi. I remember spinning a few wheelies on the wide street by the elementary school and plowing into a snowbank and getting stuck. First car on the scene was a policeman......... "No, officer, I was not spinning wheelies..." He kindly ignored the circles in the street and pushed us out of the snowbank. Hee hee hee. Think I'll stop there. Don't want to tell all my secrets. Ok, one more.... bet Charlene remembers when we were tooling down the road in my little red rambler and the gas tank fell off....... Ok, one more... bet Sandy remembers when Steve and I drove out to see her ("No, Mom, we won't go out of town") and the radiator overheated when it ran out of water. What luck! Where we stopped there was a creek at the bottom of the hill and we ran up and down the hill carrying water in the beer cans someone had thoughtfully tossed. Bet you don't know how many beer cans of water it takes to fill a radiator!! Ok, that's it. One red Nash Rambler for sale... a real bargain! Workplace Former jobs include teaching in a university, marketing cranes and excavators, small business owner, and currently am an Executive Assistant at Rockwell Collins. No intention to retire anytime soon. But I do wish there were 36 hours in a day....
