Diana's Story

For ten years, I've been a team member of the "Sweet and Sassy" Linedance Performance group. There are nineteen of us now. Our five year anniversary celebration was at DisneyWorld in the fall of 2012. Our director/choreographer is well-known for the many awards that she has received. We performed several numbers on The Carnival Dream in January 2010 to an enthusiastic audience. We perform in The Villages at the town squares, and for social clubs. Our tenth year anniversary will be spent on a four day cruise on Royal Carribbean in 2017. On August 13th, 2010, my husband after 45 years of marriage died unexpectedly. He was my soul mate and best friend! We met when he was 26 and I was 18. He is now my "special angel". On Dec 5th, 2011, my bereavement group went on a five day cruise to Mexico. The six of us had a wonderful time reminiscing about our lives, shopping, playing games, and being entertained. We try to get together every month either for dinner or cards and catching up on each other's lives. Two of the ladies have now moved, one died, and one remarried this summer. Signed up for ballroom dance lessons with the Lifelong College and joined The Villages Singles Club in January, 2012. Met Bob in June, 2012 and became dance partners. Have been in a relationship with him for four years. Christmas (2014) Bob presented me with a beautiful "commitment" ring. On Saturday, May 26th, 2012, The Villages inaugural "Honor Flight" took 25 World War II veterans to Washington, DC to see their Memorial and other sites. I accompanied an 88 year old man as his guardian. It was both physically and emotionally draining for these veterans during the entire day trip, but well worth the effort. As for me, it was a privilege and an honor to escort my veteran, who had never been to Washington. On October 5th, 2013, I flew as a guardian a second time and then again accompanied another WWII veteran on the April 27th, 2014 flight. My next assignment was as a guardian and a squad leader for the "Flightless" Honor Flight, September, 2014. This was a virtual flight for those veterans, who were unable to fly to see their monuments in DC due to health reasons. This past February, I was again a squad leader and a guardian for my neighbor's dad, who is a WWII veteran. In September, 2015, I was a squad leader and guardian of another WWII Army Veteran on the Flightless Honor Flight. This May 2016, I a...Expand for more
gain flew as a guardian with a Korean War veteran to Washington, DC. On Sunday, May 25th, 2014, I helped distribute and placed American Flags on the graves of our veterans in Florida National Cemetary. This was the first time in the cemetary history that this display and respect will be given to our heroes there. I was assigned to my husband's section to place an American Flag on his gravesite. I hope that my family and all my friends remember me as kind, generous, and spiritual.. Dancing helps me relax. I love to waltz, jitterbug, etc., and am an avid team member of a performing line dance group. My hero is a WWII veteran, who fought on Bouganville, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He is my inspiration on being active. He ran races, threw discus, swam laps, and bicycled at age 91 years young. Visited CA for two weeks in September 2012 with "old" friends met in the 80's. They took me to many sights in San Diego, Pasadena, the Coachella Valley, and Palm Springs. It was a fantastic trip. Hopefully, they will be visiting me sometime in the future. Celebrated my boyfriend's 70th birthday at DisneyWorld for three whole days in November 2012. We had a fantastic time and the weather was perfect.! Went back for Thanksgiving dinner at the Contemporary Resort, then took the monorail to the Floridian to see their Christmas decorations and lights. After returning to the Contemporary, we watched the Magic Kingdom's fireworks called "Wishes". We love DisneyWorld and frequent it often, plus we belong to the Mickeys Fan"atics" Club. On December 25th, 2014, Bob presented me with a "commitment" diamond ring. We both affirmed to not marry nor live with each other. Our relationship is based on our love for one another. Also am a member of The Red Sox Nation Club. Had my photo taken with the three World Series Trophies when they visited The Villages. In July, 2019 I was operated on for breast cancer. Thirty- two radiation treatments were given in the fall. I am taking Eliques for chronic A-Fib, which was discovered before my surgery. Prolia and Anastrozole must be taken for five years. Just recently returned from Washington, DC with Honor Flight's Mission #50. I again was a squad leader and guardian for an Air Force veteran, who served during the Berlin Crisis. Hoping to go as a guardian next May on the all women veterans flight to DC. That will be my twelveth mission for The Villages Honor Flight.
