Diana's Story

Like you, I suddenly and without warning woke up one morning to find myself sixty years old... More years are behind us than ahead of us and for me they have been very good years. My family and I have been blessed with far more happiness and success than anyone deserves. After a mediocre high school career I went on to a lackluster college career distinguished more by my tenacity than by any particular talent. I got several degrees -- BA, creative writing, Carnegie-Mellon University, MA, English, Carnegie-Mellon, most of an MA, linguistics, University of Pittsburgh, BS, computer science, University of Pittsburgh. The combination of creative writing and computer science enables me to be a working poet, which is to say that I've been gainfully employed for my entire adult life while still enjoying writing. I've lived mostly in Pittsburgh since 1967. In 1977 I married Charles Lanny Forgy, a good ol' boy from Texas with a PhD in computer science. We have three great sons, ...Expand for more
ages 18, 20, and 25. The 25-year-old married a wonderful girl who brings a touch of the feminine into a very Yin family. Our married kids live in Brooklyn and expect their first child in December 2009. Our youngest is pursuing his religious studies in Jerusalem, and our middle son, a math-computer science-whatever major at the University of Pittsburgh, lives at home. We live in an old farm house in a quiet residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh, not far from the universities and main museum complex. My husband and I work together in our own business, where he develops some specialized software that most people can do quite well without, and I do the management. I also write poetry, have done a couple of novels (unpublished), read a lot, and play the piano. We have some very cranky, elderly cats getting old with us. Many years ago, before we had kids, I returned to traditional Orthodox Judaism, so if you're looking for some kosher Tex-Mex in Pittsburgh, stop on by!
