Diane's Story
Life
The part below was written about 3 years ago. Since then, my husband has retired and we are living here in Texas since both kids are still in college. My health is under scrutiny, but those of you who would like to know more can check in with me on Facebook. :)
----
I was diagnosed with brain cancer in June 2006 (three years ago, now). It has been a wild ride--my husband was deployed in Iraq, but returned on emergency leave. After surgery and six weeks of radiation (and several more of recovery), I am feeling better than I have in years. Will know more about my medical condition when we re-scan in January, but until then, I am enjoying the holidays!!
My life has, so far, been simple and blessed. I married David a year after high school graduation. I was 18. When I was 20, my son, Christopher, was born. At 23, my daughter, Cherilyn, was born. My life is full of family--my parents, my sisters, my in-laws, nieces and nephews. I love them all! I am a homeschooling...Expand for more
mom, and someday I might return to school. I have kept up my computer skills, added to my teaching skills, and considered missionary work. I still am not sure what I will be when my kids grow up, but I am certain that I will be happy.
Workplace
The most consistent work I have done is freelance computer work: word processing, web design, data entry, whatever. I volunteer my talent at church and for military family support. And, most importantly, I teach my children. :)
Update
My kids are both enrolled in the local community college. My daughter will be finishing up high school through dual enrollment in these college courses.
We are about two years from retirement and I am back in school working towards an IT degree. I have periodic MRIs and a team of doctors watching my brain for changes and I am on medication, but I try not to focus overmuch on the cancer when possible. It will reassert itself and demand attention at some point, but, until then, I have much to do!!
