Diane's Story

Life I can't believe we are now in our 50's. Wow, are we gettng old or what. Okay, its only a number but the big "0" is an eye opener. Yes, I was very shy while going to school, I didn't talk to ANYONE! But I have made up for lost time, just ask my hubby and kids. lol I have been married for 28 years and have two beautiful daughters 22 and 17. We are involved in Scouts, Girl Scouts, (by the way, I have been selling Girl Scout cookies for the last 15 years and have not seen you!!) and we are involved in Boy Scouts. "Venture Crew" co-ed boy scouts, which is cool. Interesting people and a total different way of life then the Girl Scouts. We enjoy going on vacations, camping, golf, vacations and more vacations. We have been on a total of 10 cruises and LOVE to travel I love to spend my husbands money! I have worked in the medical field since October of 1976. I first started in a pediatricians office and now work for Anthem Blue Cross. I am looking for the day we can retire so I can travel the world. Drop me a line anytime at JFranssen (symbol for at) AOL (dot) com. When I was growing up, I was very shy. I would turn red and look the other way if someone even talked to me. I am not sure what made me that way. I lived the perfect life, I had both of my parents in a loving home. We would go somewhere just about every weekend. We traveled the United States twice on a 3 and 4 week vacation. We use to ride dirt bikes out in the desert and mountains. We were a 3 dirt bike family, one for Dad, one for Mom and one for us kids. It was totally awesome. We would go out riding with the Hughes, Papendicks, Trails and Cassels. That all ended when my father passed away back in 1972. My Mother did remarry and we continued with traveling, camping & biking but we stepped up to a dune buggy. That was a blast, just ask Valeri Peters. We had some good times. But life is not always fair, my step dad turned abusive! Of course my Mom picked up and moved out and in with my hubby and I until she got back on her feet. She ended up marrying one of my classmates father..Melanie Cassel. They had a wonderful marriage until his death in 2001. He lived a lonely life prior to their marriage. His kids didnt give a rats crap about him. Excuse my expression. During their marriage, they were never there for their Dad. Not until his last 2 weeks of life. Have you ever heard of the phrase, wicket step sisters...well I have 4 of them and one wicket step brother....Melanie, Charla, Dawn, Carol & Irvin....Expand for more
Their Dad's body wasnt even cold before they started on my Mom asking for petty things back that they had given him. One was a VHS tape of Saving Private Ryan. Helllooo people! My Mom is now in a rest home, she has had several strokes from the stress of his kids. We love my Mom with all our heart and we are for her all the time. Just hang on to the memories that you once had and still have and you shall succed in life. I hope that each and everyone of you that are reading this is happy in their lives as I am. Life can be boring without the right partner at your side. Always remember to keep smiling and laughter is the best medicine. College Well my college days were like my high school days. I was very quiet and shy. I managed to get by and get out as fast as I could. I received my Nurses Aid certificate my first summer at Rio Hondo and then I continued and received my Medical Assisiting certificate. I wanted to become a nurse and help others but then that would require me to talk. OH MY! This past spring, I went back to the school (Rio Hondo) and took a cermacis class. I had a lot of fun. I took the class with my sister and one of her friends from work. We had a good time and I am going to enroll again this fall. Being one of the oldest in the class, its kinda neat. They have respect for you and the teacher gave me an A for effort. Not really, I made some interesting pieces and if I say so myself, they came out nice. Workplace I have been a Girl Scout leader since 1993 and now the proud Mom/Leader of my youngest daughter who received her Girl Scout Gold Award. I have now officially retired from the dermatologists office after 28 years. Yes that was a long time working for the same doctor but due to his age, I decided it was best for me to retire and find employment else where. I miss the patient contact and the kids I worked with, but the nagging wife of the doctor had to go. I now work for Anthem Blue Cross. My title there is Claims Processor II for National Accounts. What do I do you said, I deny your claim for Viagra you old farts. Actually I process and pay claims that come in. I really enjoy it, was a bit scared at first changing carerrs at 50. But hey, it was worth all the benefits and everything that goes with it. Military I was never in the military but I do love a man in uniform. hehe My hubby was in the Army and so was my Dad but I guess that doesnt make me a military person. Oh well, in my next life. I do have two nephews in the Army Reserves.
