Dianne's Story

Where have I Lived? Why did I Move? I left Jonesboro in 1997 and have been on the East Coast since then. Initially, I moved to the D.C. metropolitan area where I worked in PR for about a year. My title at that time was - I kid you not- Director of the Universe- I hated that job. There were a few perks such as the day I got to meet Bob Woodward famous for exposing the shenanigans of the Nixon administration-it was almost surreal as just months before that, I was teaching about him. From there, I got my start in instructional design as a consultant with a small environmental engineering firm. Suddeny,I was ripped out of my complacency as a happy N.I.M.B.Y.- (not in my back yard) and learned about all the treacherous ways people are destroying the planet. I served as a consultant for many different agencies- USDA, National Office of Civil Rights, Bureau of Land Management etc., etc. In 1999, I married and in 2001 I had my last- as in stick a fork in me I'm done- child. A wonderful little person that we named Sam. He's 7 now and I just do not know where the time has gone. Incredibly, it must run in the family because he, like Joseph and Tori, is really interested in politics! You know that makes the former Government teacher in me proud. Speaking of former, I am also, a FORMER REPUBLICAN- thank you very much George W. I can no longer ever again proudly display the bumper sticker that reads- "don't blame me, I voted Republican". In fact, I think it is time to add a significant 3rd party to the line up... ok- enough of my soap box.:-) After the birth of Sam the man, I started my own Training and Development/OD consulting business that allowed me to stay at home with the little guy and work...Expand for more
around him.... In 2004, I was offered a faculty position at Virginia Commonwealth University where I happily partnered with an amazing multimedia /graphic designer to start an eLearning institute to serve the needs of all Social Services employees throughout the state of VA. After 3+ years, I had learned all that I ever hope to know about social services policy in the state of VA - bet you wouldn't be surprised to know that much state policy contradicts and even opposes itself from line to line. Therefore, ready, willing and able, I headed off in search of my new challenge- corporate America - again. Remember the adage, be careful what you wish for? Well, I kind of forgot that one. But, luckily, I love my job! I currently serve as the Customer Education Manager - North America for an international biosciences company near Raleigh North Carolina and it is definitely challenging. Aside from my position as a high school teacher, I can honestly say that this is my favorite job. No two days are ever the same, I have total creative freedom and work with wonderful people. With two grown children- one college grad and another one 1/2 way there I've decided that it is time to seek an additional challenge and will begin work on a doctorate in Management- Organizational Leadership after the first of the year (2009). Call me A.D.D. but, there is so much to learn and so little time!!! My life thus far has taken many twists and turns but as I've gotten older, I can honestly say that it has been about the indivual choices that determine our journey. Forget the destination- just keep making the choices that resonate with you until you find your fit. I think, at least for now, I have done just that.
