Dianne's Story

After high school I went to Continental College of Beauty. To get beautiful of course! Graduated from there in July 1969, went right to work at Darrell's Salon of Beauty, at 150 Main Street, downtown SLC. Worked there for three years, got married (NO, not to Philip Royall, my high school romance, class of '67) to Steven Faurschou (East High Class of '66) in April of '72. Then went to work at ZCMI Beauty Salon, and then to Kay DUnn's Salon in the Howard Johnson Hotel. We lived in Sugarhouse for the first year of our marriage, in James Maher's (West High A'cappella Director) ward and neighborhood. Moved to the Taylorsville-Bennion area, and have lived here for 35 years. We did move once while living in Taylorsville, but only about 100 yards into a bigger home. We had four children, two girls and two boys. Between them we have 13 grandchildren. 8 boys, 5 girls. I worked in the beauty field for 30 years in my home salon. I have been a "working mother" my whole life! In 1989 I started working part time in Jordan School District for the Disabled Pre-school and worked there for 13 years. I took two years off to take care of my youngest child (who is also disabled) while she had a kidney transplant. I went back to the district, this time as an ESL aide. I work with the Hispanic students, at Majestic Elementary helping them to understand English and their assignments. I love this job! I use Spanish alot, but I took French in school!! Go Figure!I still love to draw, and sometimes paint, usually la...Expand for more
ndscapes and still life. I have a small business in my home called "Lasting Keepsakes." I re-create the bridal gown of young brides, on an 18" porcelain doll, complete with slip, gown, bouquet, veil, headpiece, and color of hair and eyes. I have done this for about ten years. I love to read, and crochet, (that's what REAL grandmas do!!) and spend time with my grandchildren. I recently got my dream car................a Chrysler Sebring Convertible!! It is champaigne gold.................I wanted a red one with black interior (Go West) but the price was just too good to pass up on this one. Having a fun time with my "midlife Chrysler" With the recent budget cuts ion Jordan School District I found myself unemployed! Fortunately I found a job in Granite District doing the same thing... ESL. I had myself all talked into a semi-retirement...but I guess this was meant to be! The job just kind of fell in my lap! I have spent the summer gardening, crafting, and enjoying the grandchildren. Our Class of "68 has a dinner group, that formed after the 40th reunion. We meet for dinner once a month,at Sizzler on 2100 South and 1300 East, at 6:30 pm. I hope all who read this will come and join us. Sharon Kisselburg Peake sends out reminders each month with a RSVP list. If you are not on her email contact list.... contact me or her and get your address to one of us. Come meet with old friends and have a fun evening remembering WHS and our years there! Hope to hear from some of my former classmates!!
