Richard's Story
After grade school - the now defunct Mc Donald's School in Manchester, I attended three 1/2 years at the Carmelite Jr Seminary in Hamilton MA. (For anyone from CJS reading this, I was called Teddy Bear by many folks (due to an unfortunate clothing choice in my freshman year - mom bought me a fall jacket that was white and "pre-fleece" and made me look like the white bear on LOST and it was the only jacket that I had for outside...)
I really thought that I had a vocation to be a priest however, one of the priests strongly disagreed and as a penance made me quit. (One of the reasons that I am a lapsed Catholic today, but also a reason that I very deeply believe in my Higher Power who I choose to call God!)
After that, I entered Bishop Bradley in my Senior Year and graduated in 1963. I took Spanish, Latin, English, and I guess the rest of my courses that I needed to get into college.
Other years include 1 year at St Anselms College in Goffstown, NH (Pre-Med), 1 year at UNH - (General Major) 4 years in US Navy (2 1/2 in San Diego, and 1 1/4 ...Expand for more
in Vietnam). Back to school for almost 3 years at UNH - (English Lit Major). Then Managed a Lums Rest for a year or so, sold MONY Insurance for 6 years and finally got a real job with IBM where I have been for over 30 years. I don't know if death or retirement will come first, but would like to stay for a few more years if I can.
Today, I live with my wife, Nancy - of almost 40 years, my daughter (37)(widow of 5 years) and her two boys (7 and 8) and my son (26) and our cat in Bedford, NH.
We moved back to NH from Atlanta, GA when our youngest grandson was new born and lived with my daughter and son in law in Manchester. When Dave died suddenly in April 2004, we were very glad that we had done the move and choosen to live with them. The grandchildren knew us and were able to not be as sad as they might have been if it was just them and mom.
So, we are a fairly happy (chemically dependant, to a degree) extended family now. I have lots of fond memories of both High School's I attended and would love to hear about how you are doing.
