Don's Story

I have been living in Vancouver, British Columbia, since 1987 and am always glad to show old friends and classmates around my adopted city. I came here to teach Korean history at the University of British Columbia. How I got from Shreveport to Korean history in Canada is a long story, involving 3 years in the Peace Corps in Korea in the early 1970s and then 9 years in graduate school at the University of Washington. Since I got started on my career relatively late, I plan to stick around for a while. I probably won't retire for another decade or so. Even after retiring, I'll probably stay in the Vancouver area. By the way, in case any of you are interested, I have just published a book on Korean religion. It's called Korean Spirituality. Despite what you may suspect from its name, it's not a new age-type book. Instead, it is an essay on the unique religious culture of Korea, the only nation in the world in which Christians and Buddhists are in roughly equal numbers. (You can check it out on amazon.com.)
