Don's Story

Attended St. Joseph's elementary school in Croton Falls, New York How many of you remember sister Jerome?? We all called her Geronimo. She put the fear of God in all students. And Mr. Slavin, the janitor, and Father Keane?? I have so many stories to share about those folks. I was an alter boy for years. Funerals were a high paying gig for an alter boy, and Father Keane would crack jokes like "It's a dying business", or "they're all dying to get it". I worked a summer job at the parish cemetary landscaping. Mr. Slavin dug the graves by hand with a pick-ax. One day I was cutting the grass right next to the grave he was digging. He was way down there working on the lower corner, 6 feet down when I saw him puncture the coffin to the left, bones fell out. He just pushed them back in and moved on. Attended Kennedy High School for One Year, then North Salem High for One year. At this time, my parents moved us all to Tucson, Azizona, where I attended Santa Rita High School and Sabino High School I spent one year at West Point, but I did not fit with the military lifestyle too well. rsity of Arizona (Tucson) and received my business degree in 1982, majoring in Information Systems and Computer Science. I pretty much disappeared from the Tucson scene right after I received my computer science degree from the UofA. But right after high school, I attended West Point for one year, then dropped out, and returned to Tucson. At this time I was hanging out with Matt Freeman among others. One night, Matt took his own life by intentionally crashing his motorcycle into the rear of a station wagon, while I was riding with him on the back of the motorcycle. How do I know it was intentional? Well, there are 3 specific things he did in the final 10 seconds that lead me to my conclusion. Many people might say "rest in peace", where I am more inclined to say "rot in hell". His actions injured me seriously, but I survived and my left leg reminds me daily, and sometimes hourly. He hurt a lot of people by this selfish, senseless act. I read a study once that concluded that when women commit suicide, they contemplate the act for many weeks or months, whereas men give consideration for 10 seconds or less.
