Don's Story
I was born in Lawrence, MA in 1942 and lived in Dracut, MA and attended Kenwood School until I was about 8. Lived in Lawrence until I was 12.I went to packard and Essex St schools. Lived in the projects on Essex St. Used to go to the Y all the time, enjoyed swimming a lot. Anyone remember skating down at the water works?
On my 12th birthday we moved to Connecticut. Lived in Newington for a year. then lived in East Hartford (my brothers still do). Went to Silver lane school for 6th and center School for 7th. Lived in the townhouses on Smith Drive.
Moved to Manchester and did the 8th grade at Hollister School. Went to MHS 1 year and went to Cheney Tech.
Those were good times. Thursday nites downtown. Everybody was there. Cruisin' up and down Main St, hanging out at Center Park just people watching or listening to the radio. I remember the dances at the High School, American Legion or at Masonic Hall. Remeber Ray Rowett the DJ. Remember the Tremelo's? Remember skating at Center Springs, the fireworks at Mt. Nebo. Remember when the Interstate didn't go thru town?
I still remember fondly my 52 Studebaker, cruising around with my girl, going to the beach in the summer or the amusement park in Agawam. H...Expand for more
anging out at DC's (remember the hot dogs?) and Burger Chef. Can still get a decent dog at Auggie & Ray's in E. Hartford.
I went in the Air Force in 1960. I left a great girl behind and ended up losing her. I ended up coming home married with a child on the way. I had a pair of great kids a boy and girl, both born at Manchester Hospital. I also now have 3 grand -daughters and a great grandchild on the way.
I traveled around a bit and have done a lot different jobs:prison psychologist in Virginia, worked on missle sites in ND, Professional musician for awhile in CT and MA (Don Weston and the Honky Tonks). Had some problems but survived them and went to college at age 38. I am now a licensed family therapist.
I have been married and divorced 3 times ( which is a running joke with my colleages. I fix everybodies marriages but myown)
I now live in Ohio, but have lived all over at onetime or another. Been a biker and a vanner, had an interesting life with some, but few, regrets. If I had it to do again I'd probably spend more time in Connecticut. I miss the roots that I used to have there.
So if you remember me or think you do,feel free to email. Like I said I miss having my roots so I will write back
