Don's Story
You'll remember me as an Marching Band Geek, really talentless wrestler, Alto Clarinetist, German and Latin Club Member, Amateur Vintner, Church-goer, Hopeless Romantic, Smart guy, Always had chewing gum, especially for Lisa B, Shelly C, Sally M and all the other West Jr. High "cuties"
Left Aurora for Kansas to study for the ministry. Went to St. John's: At St. Johns, you'll remember me as one of the Aurora Boys, Speakers out the Window at Rehwinkle, Dancin' to "Sweet City Woman" at Claire's, Bluegrass Festival aficianado, charter member of Ebony Hawks-
Then I went to Nebraska to study to be a teacher. At Concordia you'll remember me as "Freak", hair down to my shoulders, student activities council member, Student Body President, strawberry vodka sour consumer at Ficken's, pin-ball junkie, speakers out the window for baseball games from the dorm, bartender at the Clock, trailer park resident.
Teaching didn't pan out, so I went to work in Nebraska for a Muffler Manufacturer that happened to be owned by an oil company.
Moved back to Denver i...Expand for more
n 1977-78 (Orange Crush days) to be near my mom. Started work for that oil company in 1979 and have been in the oil bidness for the last 29 years, give or take a few....
Have worked overseas - Colombia, Ivory Coast, London, Norway, Gabon, Nigeria, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Now live in far west Houston - 2nd tour of "duty" here... Worked here the first time in the mid to late 80's, spent a decade in Oklahoma, returned here in the late 90's.
Married to the love of my life, although I had to go to Oklahoma to find her! Have 2 semi-adult children, Kelli -27 and Russell - 29 who are reluctantly(on their part) being pushed out of the nest.
Still have several friends in the Denver area - a few of them alumni of ACHS - and I get back there from time to time. Couldn't figure out a way to be able to afford to live there, though, after the "oil bust of the 80's". My sister-in-law lives there, and seems to be doing well.
Surprised how many names I recognize!!! If I don't crash PhotoShop trying to edit my pic, I'll try to post one here, soon.
