Don Oliver:  

After High School I went to work at Lear Jet, in October of 1964, as a tool & die maker. I got layed off in February of 1967. I applied for the Wichita Fire Department and went to work there in March of 1967. I was married to Vicki Dye from 1965-1971. We had two boys and a girl. I am presently a 49 year veteran of the fire service. I began my career as a firefighter with the Wichita Fire Department in March 1967. I met my wife Linda on the department where she was a fire dispatcher. She is a '72 graduate of Wichita Southeast. We eloped to Colorado in January of '73. We decided to move to the Denver area. I joined the Thornton, Colorado Fire Department in March of 1973. I worked my way through the ranks including Lieutenant, Training Officer, Assistant Chief and Chief of the Department. I retired from Thornton in April of 1992. I have served as the Chief of the Wilson Fire/Rescue Service (North Carolina) since March of 1992.
