Don's Story
Life
After graduating from Vets I attended a small college in Minneapolis for a couple of years. Didn't know what I wanted to do, left school and joined the Navy. Got a job with a local utility company where I've been for 40+ years and manage a research and development program. Military
Joined the Navy in 1969 and went to the Submarine School in Groton, CT. Was assigned to the USS Tigrone (AGSS-419), a WWII-vintage submarine that had been converted for experimental use to test advanced sonar systems. During joint operations with a British sub I got appendicitis while out at sea and was dropped off in the Azores for surgery. We made several trips to Bermuda - wild moped rides - and once sailed our sub all the way up the Hudson River to Albany, NY. Our boat had a terrific fast pitch softball team (I played left field) and we became Sub-base champions!
