Don's Story

Denise Ottinger was my biggest crush and first "real love". May she Rest In Peace. I miss Cindy Nevis and regret the fact I took our friendship for granted and, I was deeply saddened to learn she passed away a few years ago. I've been fortunate enough to track down and meet up again with Mark Keson - his friendship to me when I was new at Lodi Academy and not accepted by many, will always be something I'm thankful.
I look back with great respect and affection on Mr. and Mrs. Day - two people who lived their values, weren't afraid to tell you when you might be wrong but, showed life was to be lived.
I think I'll stop now before this starts sounding like an obituary. :)
Military
Greetings to old friends and comrades.
Served in the AF 1973-1995, retiring at McClellan AFB. Served at Mather AFB twice, Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Puerto Rico, Port Hueneme and Point Mugu Naval Stations, Beale AFB, did recruiting in Madison, WI and San Juan, Puerto Rico and then returned to my first base, Mather to close it,...Expand for more
moving across town to McClellan which also eventually closed.
My one regret is that I lost contact with many good friends and learned too late in my career the importance of staying in touch. Fortunately, I've been able to find some but there are still some very significant persons that I've lost track of.
Retirement from the military was an easier transition than most PCS moves. I am now living in South Hadley, MA where, until recently, I worked out of my home as a healthcare consultant, helping healthcare systems, hospitals, and medical groups recruit physicians, develop in-house departments, and giving lectures on physician recruitment, retention, and marketplace factors and later took a GS-13 position with the Veterans Administration to lead the New England region in improving its recruitment processes and strategies for healthcare professionals. It was very satisfying being able to give back to my fellow veterans. I fully retired February 2020 and am loving life!
Don't hesitate to say hi sometime.
