Don's Story

Updated Jan 2021 Life I am married to Monica (44years) and have three adult children. All of our children are married. I am grandpa to six girls and four boys. We moved to Chestermere, Alta. in 1992, from Calgary. During the years since school I took up reffing hockey in a serious way and was Referee in Chief for Calgary and Central Alberta for 1999-2004 and I continue to be involved on the executive committee. Our retirement home near San Antonio, Texas was finished in 2009 and we hope it will be our winter home soon. In the meantime we get down south about 8 weeks a year. We also have a condo in Radium to replace our former cottage which we lost in the 2013 floods and we are enjoying life in the mountains and valleys. Golf is also a big thing is our household as Monica and I both golf. One of our daughters works in the public school system and the other has a book keeping business. Our son is Course Superintendent at Darcy Ranch Golf Course near Okotoks and works as a WHL linesman.. Workplace After high school I worked on a family farm for 6 months and then worked in Saskatoon for a couple months at Tip Top Dry Cleaners. In May 1973 I joined BMO Bank of Montreal and started to see the world. I left BMO in June 1985 but not before being located in Unity, Estevan, Maple Creek, Fox Valley, Burstall, Whitewood, Winnipeg, Regina, Yorkton and Hudson Bay. In July 1985 I joined Alberta Treasury Branch and was there until June 1997. Along the way I was i...Expand for more

I retired from PwC in November 2012. In late 2012 I took on the role of CEO of Chestermere Utilities Incorporated. The Company was a start up and is responsible for all water, waste water, storm water, solid waste and recycling in Chestermere. I was brought on to establish contracts and a solid foundation. I retired from CUI on June 30, 2014. I am very involved in the community including President of the Chestermere Regional Community Development Foundation, Member of the Chestermere Local Assessment Review Board, and in 2015 I was appointed to the Province of Alberta Municipal Government Board and in 2021 I was appointed to the Alberta Surface Rights Board and the Alberta Land Compensation Board.. In the past I was also the Chairman of the Chestermere Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, Policing Committee, Audit Committee and the Planning Commission. I was also active in Lions and Rotary. I am also an off-ice official for the Western Hockey League Calgary Hitmen. While I am retired, I have a business consulting company and am working on a project by project basis. I am learning how to "retire"!!!
