Donald's Story
After high school I attended K-State and returned to Kinsley to farm. Harold Dawson called at the end of Sept. '58. He hired me to teach Voc. Ag. It was interesting to become a colleague of Dawson, Peterie, Losey and other former teachers. I taught for 9 years while farming. After some "run-ins" with the superintendent in 1966-67 I resigned and returned to KSU to complete my Master's. I then went to Michigan State University to complete a PhD. The next move was to Virginia Tech to spend most of my time on a state project to evaluate vocational programs state-wide. I retired from VT in 1998. The picture on my home page is the mountain across the valley from our house. I married Amy at KSU in 1959. She taught kindergarten in Kinsley until our son, Marshall, was born in 1963. ur daughter, Mary, was born in 1965. My hobby in retirement is antique cars. We have a '39 Lincoln Zephyr and a '31 Model A Ford that belonged to Amy's father. I have the '29 Model AA Ford truck that I learned to drive on the farm southeast of Kinsley. All three vehicles are show quality restorations. I had two very interesting experiences this summer. I visited Keith Behnke at KSU. He was in my vo-ag classes, graduating in 1963. He completed a PhD and will retire from KSU next summer. He is just one of my former students that have been very successful after leaving KHS. The class of1954 held the 55th year reunion. While I see some of the class when I return to Kinsley each year, there were some ( Al Bartman and Jerry Little) at the reunion that I had not seen for 55 years.
