Donald's Story

Life We have a sixteen month old English Bulldog named Butkus who keeps us extremely busy. He gets his nose into everything, he snores and makes other god-forbidden noises, he is stubborn and he thinks he owns the house. Still, I would not trade that furry little rascal for anything in the world. He is my little buddy. Ah, as for the family, my wife and I have two sons; both are knuckleheads, but basically pretty good kids. One just graduated from George Mason and the other, well he is deciding what to do with his life. My wife is from the Philippines and is Coldwell Banker realtor. We have been married for 27 ½ years and frankly she is saint for putting up with me. Being a Marine is hard, but being the wife is even harder, and she has done well. College I know I was a class clown, did not take much seriously, especially studying and was happy-go-lucky, yet I think I did okay. Especially when so many did not think I would amount to much. There was even a certain Algebra teacher at E-Town High that stood in front of the class and announced that I would never amount to anything. Believe me when I say those words did much to motivate me, because I would never have let him or the others that doubted me, ever get the satisfaction of knowing that I failed. nd? Workplace I am DoD contractor and have been a project manager for a military intelligence program since I retired from the Marine Corps. If I wasn’t doing something associated with the Marine Corps I would be a raving mad man. I am honored and extremely fortunate to know and work with those young Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Knowing that what I am doing is making a difference and maybe keeping these Devil Dogs alive is an indescribable feeling. Military I was a Marine for 22 and 1/2 years and would have not traded one second of that time for anything. It permitted me to see the world, meet many people, gave me opportunities to pursue my education and allowed me to continue to be a kid for an additional 22 1/2 years. Where else can you get paid to get up at zero dark thirty to go run and play? If it had not been for my family tiring of the constant of moves and my sons having to change schools (again!), I would still be in. During my time, I was grunt and later entered the intelligence community, where I severed in many places, but relished the time I served with 3rd Reconnaissance Bn in Okinawa, Japan, I served a tour as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island and wanted to go back, but could not get an age waiver. Later, I moved into the data processing field, which is probably the only thing I ever did I regretted while in the Corps. At any rate, I do miss the comradely and being around those young Marines.
