Donald's Story
Life
I attended the University of South Dakota from 1979-1984. I majored in Earth Science with minors in math and business. I dated my wife, Laurie, from 1979-1981. I was at Kent State University for my masters in Geology from 1984-1987. I specialized in Invertebrate Paleontolgy and studied Ichnology. I worked for Boswell Engineering, South Hoboken, NJ in 1987 before being laid off. I moved in with my folks in Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute in 1987/88. I took up Carpentry and was certified as a Framer. I went to work for a friend building a house in the mountains north of Santa Fe. My parents purchased a cattle ranch in south central South Dakota in the spring of 1988. her in 1989. We adopted Dustin (three weeks old) in 1995. We adopted Emily (one day old) in 2001. Currently, my Father and I run 400 cow/calf pairs on about 3500 acres and farm another 1500 acres. We raise registered and commercial Black Angus cows. We artificially inseminate and I sell yearling bulls by private treaty. We grow corn, alfalfa, cane, and wheat. We longer raise sheep or ringneck pheasants. We also provide lodging to sportsmen and tourists at Grandview Lodge. Stukel's Eagle Ranch and Grandview Lodge are located adjacent to South Dakota Highway 44 overlooking the Platte-Winner bridge and Lake Francis Case (the Missouri River). We enjoy walleye fishing in the spring and summer. Dustin and I like to hunt doves, grouse, pheasants, turkey, deer (whitetail and mule), and coyotes on the ranch.
