After I grad. from CHS, I worked at Potlatch Forests Inc. during the summer for several years while pursuing higher education. I went to NICE, Lewiston, for the first year, then stopped and worked for a year. I then attended Pacific Lutheran College, Tacoma, WA for a year. In 1949 I stayed home and worked fulltime at PFI and went to NICE parttime. Then the Korean War broke out and I was drafted into the Army in Nov. 1950. I Trained at Cp. Cooke, CA. (now Vandenberg AFB) until April 1, 1951, and was shipped over seas to Japan. with my division. I was in Japan for about 9 months and in Jan. 1952 went with my Division (40th Inf.) to Korea. I was attached to the Unit Personnel Section of Service Co. of the 224th Inf. Regt. In Sept. of 1952 my time in the army was closing and I was brought back to the US, discharged from the Army on Oct. 28th, 1952. I worked at PFI until the fall of 1953, and then returned to PLC, graduating in 1955, with a BA degree, with a major in history and a minor in Greek. The next Fall, I entered Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN, from which I graduated in 1959. (After my second year at the seminary, I interned at Morris, IL for 14 months.)
