Donna's Story
Hey Friends and classmates:
After graduating from Daniel, I attended Florida State University and majored in Dance. While I was there I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha and spent 3 years as a Golden Girl (the basketball dance team) before graduating in 1984. I moved to NYC in 1985 dance at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center where I spent 2 years as a scholarship student. After earning a Dance Certificate (yeah, what the heck does that mean?) at Ailey, I did further study at Broadway Dance Center with Frank Hatchett while taking various music video (LL Cool J for example) television (Saturday Night Live) and travelling gigs including a tour of Colombia, SA and summer stock in New England. I took some voice lessons -thank you Mrs Frye for teaching me to read music- got a gig dancing and singing on the Holland America Line Cruise ships. I stayed at sea for 3 years doing Broadway and Vegas -style shows. Then I moved to Las Vegas to get away from the water and learned something that I had not realized in all my performing career...I'm short. agician's assistant getting regularly sawed in half, set on fire and turned into snakes and big cats. It was a blast. My biological clock began to outstrip my need to perform next and I married and promptly had a beautiful little girl who I named Nova Nicolle. Next came my heartstring Rocco Addison who is named after his grandfathers. My husband was an American Italian and had a problem with money and fidelity. That last one was a deal breaker. I got my real estate license and during the late 90's was an award winning agent selling millions of dollars of property. Unfortunately my ex managed to squander the money prior to the divorce and 9/11 put a halt to the Real Estate boom in Vegas. I then moved to Atlanta to be near my family and met my current husband, an organic chemist and professor. We've been married for 4 years and during that time I have been teaching for a dance ministry and substitute teaching in the local elementary schools. I keep busy with community theater and volunteer work and am enjoying being "Mom's taxi" as my kids now go to dance classes and play in baseball games.
