Doris's Story
Since graduating with the Utopians in 1956 - Wow, what a journey!! Have three sons with four grandchildren. Live in Las Vegas for the past seven years. Was a secretary for 40 years and changed careers in 1996 when I went to College and got my Bachelors in Physical Sciences - and have been a Certified Fitness Trainer for the past fifteen years. I work with seniors - like ourselves - and most importantly the M.S. / Parkinsons / M.D. communities. Working with balance - strength - flexibility - teaching Yoga, Pilates, Body Sculpting, Flexibility, Sit and Be Fit and Stability Ball.
I feel my most important accomplishment is my three sons, whom I know to be good men. I have a lot of friends - a good life and am still short - but smile a lot. Am healthy and very busy with my business - and life - bowling - going to lots of wonderful shows with friends/family.
I have a beautiful black lab who is 14 1/2. She was a former guide dog - and I was a facilitator at Guide Dogs in Sylmar for seven and a half years. She's been mine for the past twelve years.
My life is rich and satisfying. Good luck to all my fellow and past Utopians.
I relax listening to beautiful music
When I was studying Yoga, my Yogi was 95 years young and could turn her body into a pretzel. Wow
Music, T.V. shows, movies, dogs, mystery/romantic/action movies, shows - too many to list.
Patience
Still singing - in 2005 participated in the Ms. Sr. Nevada Pageant - met some lovely ladies and made several new friends. Was a rewarding experience. Go to Utah every year for the Shakespeare Festival which is always a grand way to spend a few days.
Have been in Las Vegas since 2004 and still getting used to the Summers, but still make visits to CA to see my family.
The most important thin...Expand for more
g that life has taught me - so far is patience and good things will come to you.
I always wanted to be a ice skater when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have water, apple, and celery to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My hero is and was my Father who had the most fabulous work ethic - and patience and love. He was always there for me whether I was right or wrong (haha) but he taught me to think for myself and have self-confidence.
Some of my favorite things are : Dogs, music, mysteries, romance, books, working out - walking - bowling - golf - live theater
My current age is 73. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be gone. I was so completely wrong.
Definitely not dressing as in the 50/s - my dress these days is completely casual - genes - shirts - or casual outfits -
My first job was at Trompeter Elect., where I got paid $2.00hr to $2.25hr. What I remember most about it is The wonderful experience there.
I remember going up on the roof of the apt. house next door (I was about 10) with my cape - thought I could fly - well, I couldn't.
One way I relax is massage - another is lisening to beautiful music - or walking in a part - or petting my Lab.
Now, I'm 77 (2015) and still working as a fitness trainer in Las Vegas. Working at Sun City, Summerlin and for the City of Las Vegas as Senior Centers. Teaching 15 classes weekly and still going strong. Am happy. Lost my beautiful Lab two years ago as she was 17. Have wonderful friends and enjoying life to the fullest. My Sons are all well and thriving and my Grandchildren are wonderful. Life is good! Hope all is good for all my classmates of 1956 at Hamilton High School.
