Doris's Story

Life Like Bea Petrosky Daily (class of 54) I too was born and raised in the company houses owned by Carnegie, but I was on McLister Avenue. Living in that 2 bedroom/2 story brick apartment until 1949 when my Dad (Mingo Fire Dept Assistant Chief) bought Weisberger's homestead on Madison Avenue was an experience in itself. Within 2 weeks after we moved, my Dad was killed in a steel mill incident that changed our lives forever. Transfer from CCHS in Sophomore year, graduated in 1951 from MHS. Now live in SW Ohio between Dayton & Columbus. Have 2 children, 7 grandchildren,2 great grandsons, and two great grand-daughters. A recurrence of my childhood affliction (osteomyelitis) in Oct 2008 forced me to retire at the age of pushing 75 yrs. I am still an active member of IAAP, an international professional organization for admins, but am now a Merited member. (retired) Would LOVE to hear from the MHS class of 1951. Even though I only attended CCHS in the 47-48 school year, I recognize names and faces of many of you. Had a chance to look at a 1949 Crusader Year Book last weekend, and oh my, the memories. Hope to be able to touch base with some of you. Contact wi...Expand for more
th one St. Agnes School classmate resulted in her not believing I am who I claim to be. Believe me ... I am Doris Stoddart, formerly of Mingo Junction OH. School Three years of friendships, music, dancing, working in the high school office ... days and years that can never be forgotten. My friends and school were my refuge when my father was killed in a mill accident. I regret not having kept in closer touch with classmates, but I'm trying to remedy that now. Workplace Starting back in 1951 while still in high school I worked at the HUB. In 1952 I moved on to work at the Herald-Star, leaving there to become a civil servant at WPAFB in 1956. 1960 I 'took a hiatus' to be a MOM, re-entering the business world (MY world) in 1974. International Steel Wool Corporation for 4 years helped me into a position at a large legal firm in Springfield (Clark County) for 3 years, then to a Medical and Surgical Center as a transcriber for about 18 doctors for a year, back to the legal sector, then back to a manufacturer of material moving equipment for about 6.5 years. MANPOWER took over my life for a year before accepting a two week assignment that quickly moved into 19+ years.
