Dorothy's Story

I have been self-employed for the last three yeas, hand-painting ceramic dishes and knick-knacks, and face painting for community events and parties. Prior to that I worked as an Executive Director for a non-profit organization, for 8 yrs. I spent a lot of time traveling both within Wyoming (where I live) and across the country. Since high school my work has primarily been social work. I have worked with people with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, financial problems, mental health disabilities, and am now the Director for the Brain Injury Association of Wyoming. The weirdest job I ever had was ... doing assembly work putting together navigation equipment for airplane pilots. I learned to use a punch press, metal shearer, drill press, and a variety of other equipment. Anyone who knows me knows I am a girlie-girl, and this job for me was totally WEIRD! Life I have 3 grown children and 20 grandchildren. I am married now and am enjoying it very much! You might be surprised to learn I once weighed more than 300 lbs! I made some big changes and am so excited at the new energy and life this has brought me. I lost 156 lbs! It has been 10 years now, and I still enjoy a healthier weight. t Hussa again (Choir Teacher). I saw his photo in the newspaper a while back, and he looked just the same as I remembered. My brother and my sister and I all took various choral classes with him. We even took one all together! The songs we learned there became family favorites and mom always asked us to sing them for her when we got together for holidays. So here's to you Mr. Hussa, for starting a family tradition and love of music! School The wildest thing I ever did in school was to skip an orientation meeting in the gym. I swear I thought I would have a heart attack I was so scared! I was not the rebel type, you see. Surprises The biggest surprise in my life would have to be where I have wound up working. I was a teenaged parent and had 3 kids by age 19. I thought that would be the extent of my life, although I always wanted to do medical research or become a doctor. I am surprised to now find myself, owning my own business. I could not have imagined a job much closer to my goals without actually being a famous artist. Look me up on Facebook if you would like to see examples of my paintings both on faces and in ceramics. I'm not talking about stars and rainbows... I paint full face animals, fantasy, and floral designs.
