Dorothy's Story

Hi everyone..I am now living in Wesson, MS with hubby, Mark when he is at home. He is a commercial truck driver and comes home awhile each month when he isn't in AZ with his ailing Mom. I work at an auto dealership in Brandon, MS partime but am seeking a position with state or county government. I did drive 18-wheeler with Mark until doctors made me come off road. Anyway, alot has happened and changed throughout our lives as I am sure you all are quite aware. I had lost contact with almost everyone in Natchez before trying classmates.com and am anxious to reunite. Missed all the high school reunions..been away just too too long but I'm back. Talk to me gang!! I guess I may have to visit the courthouse there and find out who is still around and what the old girls' last names are now. I have travelled extensively across country (48 big states for 7 years) driving the semi rig; I miss my husband and the money we were making together; it was almost like a paid vacation all the time, but it took me out as far as health matters...I am still holding up to be almost 55. My birthday is Valentine Day, yall! Let me fill you in on my life since leaving Natchez in 1971. I attended Draughons Business College for a while until I got pregnant, told the father of the child about my condition and he would not marry me, saying he didn't know if baby was his or not..he was the only one I dated. Anyway, had the child, gave him up for adoption in Adams County after delivery, went to Flowood, MS and recuperated at my late sister's home, moved out and got my apartment after finding a decent job with the Credit Bureau in Jackson. Then, I moved to Alabama for a short while. I met a man and we moved to Lakeland, FL. We split after only a few months together; I had him arrested for domestic violence. I was moving back to MS and my car broke down near Union Springs, AL just south of Montgomery, had car problems (the starter went out) and the mechanic that fixed my car, fixed me--we were married. After 12 years of marriage, we were divorced irreconciable differences. But he had a son from a previous marriage. The child's mom was killed in a freak car accident; a log truck ran over her car and she died at the scene instantly. Rusty, the child, still regards me as his mom and he has a wonderful family; he is a preacher!! He has not always been a preacher, however; and only he can tell the story of how he was called from the darkness into the light. He is going out west next fall to witness on some of the Indian reservations. He still lives in Alabama. I was married a second time and we made our home in Eupora, MS (Webster County). I worked for Child Support Enforcement Division in Louisville and West Point. That was a good piece to commute, but I did it until I was offered a job the Chancery Clerk of Webster County. I was her Deputy Clerk. Both jobs were exciting which is why I am ready to go back to work with either ...Expand for more
of the two, state or county. We were divorced in 2000. I was reading the classifieds and came across the ad for truck driving, so I enrolled in a truck driving school (a crash course for dummies, as some of the trucking companies referred to it because I had to be retrained on their equipment, road tested and orientation before I could go out with trainers). I did good once I learned everything I needed to know before becoming road-ready. It took 12 weeks of training with 2 different companies. I first flew to Dallas/Ft. Worth and went to work for Stevens Transport; 3 months later, I left them to come to drive for KLLM in Jackson, MS since this terminal was closer to home. And, here I stayed til June of 2007. I think of all the teachers I would love to see again would have to be Ms. Hilton, the lady with the handicapped left arm. She was really inspiring and courageous as well as a good English/Literature teacher. Do you remember her? I remember Curtis Cowart as being my first crush--I must have been 10 or 11 years old. He and his brother, Randy, used to come to the home to play softball with us. I would let Curtis take my last bat if I was 3 and 2; I would run the bases. He could hit the bark off the ball. And cute??? Yes!!!! I was a little shy at times, but not always. I hope all my friends and classmates will remember me that way. I was helpful more than harmful. Happiness, true happiness, for me would be out riding around with a group of old friends listening to ZZ Top, Chicago, Three Dog Night, Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. Going out on Palestine Road or some of those old country partying places. And, if I was able to, roller skating at the old McLeod's Skating Rink or horseback riding. Since those days are over, I enjoy dropping a few $s in the casinos in the penny and quarter slots. I just need to know when to say when at these places. But most of my happiness comes from being able to be home with my pet cat, Tabitha; and being able to see my sisters and their families occasionally and going to visit my son in Alabama when time and $s allow it. My biggest surprise in life had to be that first leap of faith...leaving school and stepping out into the real world--not the sheltered one I was so accustomed to. If I had one thing to do-over again differently, I would have pursued the education I should have after completion of high school; I would possibly be retired by now from state service and loving every minute of it. The weirdest job I ever had has to be the one I have now. People are weird, strange at auto dealerships; all of them from time to time seem to have the pms days, even the MEN! Mood swings are unbelievable. Well, it is either very late here or very early. I am about to fall asleep at the keyboard. Get ready to get those taxes filed you all!!!! Tell those you meet you heard from me and ask if any of them remember me. I wasn't all that bad. See ya around I hope.
