Dorothy's Story
School
My best school experience occurred during my junior year. I was given an opportunity to go to Washington D.C. as a representative of my school for the Close-Up program. I was torn between playing in a basketball tornament and seeing government at work up close. When my coaches told me that I did not have a choice, I realized what they saw in me and what really mattered in life. Thanks go to coaches Godfrey, Madison and Perry who always put education above all else.
My favorite teacher in high school was Ms. Ramsey. She always told it like it was. I admired her intelligence, courage and spirit. She was not only a great English teacher, but she was a great teacher of life. She always stressed a "seriousness of purpose" that ha...Expand for more
s stuck with me for 29 years...and she was funny as hell.
I graduated from college and from law school. I worked as a sole practictioner for a few years before becoming an assistant attorney general for the state of Louisiana. I am now in my 12th academic year of teaching in the clinical education department as well as teaching Matrimonial Regimes (and sometimes Successions) at the law school I graduated from. I always believed that I would succeed at passing the bar and becoming a lawyer. I never thought I would end up here, but I always wanted to. It gives me great pride and pleasure to help someone else acheive their goal.
College
College years were the best years of my life!! But, I wish I'd had the time and sense to study more.
