Doug's Story
For those who have not heard, Doug Bancroft went to be with the Lord on the 4th of Feb 2010.
I am one of Doug's son, I had asked Him if it would be OK to open this acct with the upcoming reunion some time ago.
I have attached the obituary that we wrote for "Pop"...
In Memory of Douglas D. Bancroft
Born to the Lord on 5/12/1939
Returned to the Lord on 2/4/2010
Finally at last, Douglas D. Bancroft was reunited in Heaven with his loving wife and soul mate Mary Lee on February 3, 2010. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Erma Paciorkowski.
He and Mary Lee shared many adventures during their 47 years together. Starting with their courtship as youngens` in Michigan before settling in their dream home here in Knoxville. Their adventures carried them from Michigan to Camp Pendelton in California where Doug served honorably in the United States Marine Corp and were blessed with their first born. Upon completing his military service, the family relocated to Tampa, FL for a short period before heading back West to Northern California and again was blessed with two more loving children. While there Doug was a member of the San Jose Hill Climbing Association where he and Mary were affectionately known as ¿Dog¿ and ¿Poopoo¿. From there the family relocated to Southern California where Doug turned his passion for speed on two wheels to wat...Expand for more
er and ultimately to more wheels, this time four, with his involvement in Nascar as an official for the West Coast series. This gave him and Mary an opportunity to travel not only extensively on the West Coast but also as far West as Australia and throughout the United States which led them to settling in Knoxville. While here he became a proud ¿Papa¿ to two handsome grandsons and a beautiful granddaughter. In the past 20 years here in Knoxville there was no one prouder in the neighborhood to display the UT orange and white! It would not surprise those who knew him that he was the CEO of the ¿livin` on the porch club¿. But then who wouldn¿t have wanted to be with the view of the Smokies from that seat, not to mention the beauty of nature all around him.
Doug will be sorely missed by his son Gary (Cheri) of Dallas, TX, Edward (Irene) of Antioch, CA and daughter Wendy English (D. W.) Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Grandsons Timothy and Kyle English of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and granddaughter Amanda Bancroft of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his constant companion Bojangles.
A private memorial service for family and friends is being held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Doug to Victory Junction Gang Camp, victoryjunction.org/donate or by mail to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam¿s Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
